Seeing it for the second time

Of course it was funny and good. My only problem with the DVD is that it is edited.
The entire beginning of the movie is missing. The movie should start with Quackser
going to work at his father's factory. This is where he finds out that he is not
cut out to do factory work. He transitions from factory work to self employed.
In this edited version, you never know why he chose his line of work. I would like
the full version instead of the edited version. Too bad I didn't know that I was
buying an edited version.

Quacker Fortune

A charming, beautifully-acted tale of a simple, lower-class Irish man and his American graduate-student girlfriend. A most atypical role for Gene Wilder, and one that he handles with consummate skill.

Gene Wilder video

I originally saw this movie in a theater back in the 70's. I had frequently thought of scenes from this movie over the years. When I saw this movie was available through Amazon, I bought the movie and got to enjoy Gene Wilder as an Irishman again.

Another GEne Wilder funny one.

I had never heard of this movie until I saw it on Amazon advertised.
I got it simply because Gene Wilder was in it. The movie itself is a
lighthearted comedy set in Ireland in a small village. Wilder's character, Quackser Fortune (the name GEne Wilder and a name like
Quackser is bound to be funny). Quackser wheels a wheelbarrow with a
big rose sticking up in it, collecting horse manure. "Horse Manure
for sale"-Horse dung for sale" etc. Margot Kidder is a young rich
American girl attending University there and is attracted to this
strange character..and treats him rather shabbily as he is not of her
social status. Then Quackser gets a horrifying shock-the village is
hauling off all the horses to the slaughter house and without the
horse manure, Quackser has no job. By the way seems the village has
the most beautiful flowers anywhere all over town and all just because of Quackser. It's not Wilder's best but anything he is in has that
quirky sense of humor we all love.

Gene Wilder At His Irish Best!!

Quakser Fortune(Gene Wilder)is a somewhat eccentric, uneducated humble, fertilizer merchant in Dublin Ireland when a rich, sophisicated American visitor Zazel Pierce(Margot Kidder)becomes fascinated by him when they first connect, their different lifestyles become irrelevant but they later grow tired of each other especially by Zazel's snobbish friends.Quakser then retreats to his old job of gathering horse manure to sell as fertilizer. When his cousin in the Bronx dies he leaves a small fortune for Quakser that changes his livelihood forever. This is quite an interesting, offbeat comedy/drama with Gene Wilder at his Irish best!!
